Currently Reading

About this time last year I was reading my college's alumnae quarterly and came across something of interest in the book review column. A most unusual occurrence as most features are typically non-fiction and quite boring. The book? A Discovery of Witches by Deborah Harkness. A work of fiction with strong ties to the history of science, alchemy and witchcraft studied by Professor Harkness. It is, in the broadest sense, an intellectual and much better written combination of Harry Potter and Twilight. Fifty Shades this is not.

One by one my recommendation had my friends hooked. The catch, it was the first book in a trilogy. Which meant that we had to wait a full year for the next novel. Shadow of Night was released Tuesday. I haven't slept much this week from wee hour reading.

You should go read them now. As a second option you can scroll through some lovely, moody interiors inspired by the book jackets. And then go read them.
That gorgeous shade of gray-blue? It's Hague Blue by Farrow and Ball.
