Weekend Escape: Across the Pond and Back Again

After trolling through Mr and Mrs Smith for this week's weekend escape I came away with two stylish contenders, one in New York City and one in London. Venturing to their official websites I discovered that they are both owned and operated by the luxury boutique hotel company, Firmdale Hotels and both designed by Kit Kemp in her signature fresh & modern British style. It all makes sense now, why I couldn't choose one over the other. Therefore, why decide? I'll just post them both.

This first is the Crosby Street Hotel, located in the always fabulous SoHo neighborhood of NYC. Officially one of America's greenest hotels, this little gem is certified LEED Gold; they even have a rooftop garden for seasonal produce. Their accommodations range from deluxe guest rooms to well appointed multi-bedroom suites all with gorgeous warehouse windows.

One of my favorite aspects of the hotel is that they have dedicated spaces solely for hotel guests. Their cozy drawing room (where guests can partake in afternoon tea) opens onto a delightful and sculptural courtyard garden.

Across the pond is Number Sixteen in the fashionable South Kensington neighborhood of London. At 44 guest rooms this hotel feels more like a luxurious bed and breakfast that your typical boutique hotel. Their several dedicated communal spaces for guests include two drawing rooms, a glass enclosed conservatory and a beautiful garden space where afternoon tea is served daily. All perfect places to to relax after full days of exploring the city.

I love the principle drawing room at Number Sixteen with the bold use of color and pattern. Probably not something I'd like to come home to every day but would be an amazing escape during vacation.
