Opera Weekend

I'm off to New York City today to spend a weekend with my Grandmother. For my birthday this year she gave me an "opera weekend" (I pick the opera, she buys the tickets).  Yes I'm a young adult. Yes I like the opera. Get over it. Even though the Met's season includes many operas I haven't seen in person I really wanted to see my favorite opera, Donizetti's Lucia di Lammermoor.

I first discovered it when I was studying abroad in Milan and my History of Opera class went to a performance of Lucia at the glorious La Scala Opera House. It is based on the novel The Bride of Lammermoor by Sir Walter Scott. The story combines family obligation, romance between rival houses, falsehoods and betrayal culminating with the heroine's great fall into insanity and slaying of the man she is forced to marry on their wedding night.

Below is the outfit I would wear to the opera if I was currently flush with cash. As it stands my rent is more important than new clothes.

I particularly want one of Issa's fabulous dresses - Kate Middleton always looks stunning when she wears them, some of you may be aware that the "Royal Engagement Dress" was a phenomenal long-sleeved blue number. I'm also loving the tasseled earrings, I think I'm channeling Natalie Portman and those great Tiffany&Co earrings she wore at the Oscars this year.
